This Custom Shop Martin was built in 2021 and it has some very light finish wear that is so slight it doesnt show up in our photos, and even lighter fret wear. It mixes features from the Authentic Series with elements from the Standard Series. Think of it as basically a 1939 Martin D-18 Authentic with an adjustable truss rod in the neck and a contemporary neck profile. It has an impressive list of specs, including a VTS (torrefied) Adirondack spruce top, hide glue construction, and scalloped VTS top bracing. A big part of the appeal of this particular example is the 1 11/16″ nut width and Martin’s “modified low oval” neck shape, giving it the feel of a modern guitar. It has a thin, low gloss top finish with Ambertone sunburst, which lends the instrument a vintage vibe. In summary, it’s a very playable Martin mahogany D that combines the tone and sonic power of an Authentic ’39 D-18 with the playability of a modern steel-string acoustic. Comes in the impressive Custom Shop case, and the Custom Shop spec sheet is included showing a retail price of just over ten grand, yikes!
