Introducing a brand new guitar design by Andy Powers of Taylor Guitars fame – this is the Powers Electric A-Type finished in Magenta! Inspired by Andy Powers’ upbringing in Southern California – the A-Type takes its cues from classic American cars, surfing, skateboarding and everything else under the California sun. The A-Type is a fully-enclosed hollowbody electric guitar design. As far as construction and tone woods go, it’s a solid braced maple top over an urban ash body, trussed together by two internal soundposts that the bridge is actually anchored into. The hollow body is designed to maximize resonance and suppress feedback by vibrating in sync together.
The pickups in this A-Type are “PF42” pickups: single-coil pickups within a “partial Faraday cage” designed by Andy to have a firm and bright tone that’s a bit more friendly to higher-gain settings than the FF42 ‘Full Faraday” pickups also offered in the A-Type.
With the exception of the tuners, all of the hardware is made in house at Powers Electric. The tailpiece is a vibrato unit with a special camshaft that’s designed to bend the notes in pitch unison just like you’d find on a lap or pedal steel guitar. The knobs and tremolo arm tip are handmade of colorful resin and inspired by the excess material when glassing a surfboard, or if you’re old enough to remember – “Fordite”, which was the excess paint that came from hand-spraying cars in the 1950s.
If you think you already have a guitar collection full of all the tools you need, we encourage you to add a Powers Electric to the arsenal! It might just be your new secret weapon!
